Wow, Im so hyped right now. I just left the “Tropical Divas, Sex and the City” Fashion Show here in Richmond and it was full of so much energy. Commentator Stanley Byrd, of Raleigh, NC, did an awesome job MC’n the show. He got everybody worked up and into the groove. I mean I’m usually a laid back person but I was interactive in the show, yes I walked the runway a little during the “Stiletto Competition”. But I had to be coaxed into it by Tiffany Jones of “Mo’Nique’s Fat Chance, so she walked with me. I was in the VIP section so we were treated with wine and gift bags for our attendance. Now I’m not a drinker, at all, so that one glass got to me. I was dancing and some other stuff that I don’t remember but I’m sure will show up on someone’s YouTube soon, lol. The show started with a couple of musical selections from Eliah Keaton of Charlotte, NC. I tell you what, when his CD comes out I’m definately getting it. His voice is tranquilizing and reminds you of a mixture of Will Downing and Raheem DeVaughn. Once the actual fashion show started we were treated with the honor of seeing professional plus-size model, Sunni Diggs of Maryland. You may remember Sunni from the Tyra Bank’s “Thick & Sexy” episode and from The Dr. Phil Show. The fashions were young and hip and very summery. The audience was serenaded from evening wear by Igigi, men in skimpy speedos to curvy ladies rockin sexy lingerie from Empress. Other fashions included The Avenue, Debra Rae’s Boutique, Ashley Stewart & Dee’s Couture. Well enough of me talking let’s see some pics…..(these pics here are from my personal camera but once photographer Jamaal Mayes of Maz Imageworks post his, I’ll have better quality pics…….
Even though we’re still in the midst of summer fun it’s also time for parents to start thinking about Back-to-School items for the kiddies. I myself started even before school ended to get the best deals. “You know at the end of the season stores really reduce items”. So back in May I was able to rack up on name brand-name clothing such as Lacoste & Ralph Lauren for dirt cheap at Macy’s. (I didn’t have this blogsite back then but next time a sale comes up like that I’ll be sure to share it with you all). Anyway, I’ve been getting sale emails for over a week now so I decided to give you all a head start on this difficult task. Here are just a few tips that I found of interest to assist parents with their back to school shopping:
- Go to Wal-Mart for school lists and check out their supply aisles for “super” discounts
- Read the Sunday newspaper ads weekly because Staples & Office Max often do 1cent deals
- If your child(ren) have to wear uniforms check out places like K-Mart & even the thrift store for inexpensive khakis
- Shop during tax free weekend (check your state website for this info)
P.S.- If there are any local parents in VA who need school supplies, I have loaded brand-new backpacks filled with supplies for only $10, email me at admin@bellastyles.net
I saw Rihanna in these jeans back in March 2009 and said to myself, “Dag those jeans fit her nice”. I liked the motorcycle look of them but yet they were still sexy & feminine. Although I’m more of a dress kinda girl, I like a nice pair of fitted jeans, especially skinny jeans. I hadn’t seen a plus-size pair that looked similiar until today in Ashley Stewart. While I was “window shopping” I stumbled across them. So of course I tried them on and they fit really good. It’s more of a “jegging” feel than jeans so they slipped on comfortably. Since I was just “window shopping” I sadly left them in the store. But I will be keeping an eye on them in case they go on sale soon, wink, wink!

For nearly 100 years, the Girl Scouts organization has been helping build girls of courage, confidence, character and community-mindedness. Now they want the girls to feel good about their bodies, too. In a bold move, the Girl Scouts organization has gotten four gorgeous Wihelmina Curve plus-size models to contribute to a campaign promoting a healthy body image for girls. Available for viewing on the Girl Scouts website and on YouTube, the individual clips feature Anansa Sims, Leona Palmer, Julie Henderson and Lizzie Miller, who share their views about body acceptance.
The plan was hatched after a survey of girl scouts by the Girl Scout Research Institute found that 37 percent of the 1,000 13- to 16-year old girls polled know someone with an eating disorder and almost 90 percent thought the fashion industry placed too much emphasis on being thin. Even more disturbing, nearly one third had used drastic measures such as starving themselves to lose weight.
It’s all part of the Girl Scout’s focus on addressing self-esteem in girls. The Girl Scouts and Dove Self-Esteem Fund (the Dove brand is known for their realistic-sized models used in ads) have teamed up, for example, to create the Uniquely ME! self-esteem programming that addresses body issues prompted by the media’s glamorization of ultra-thin bodies. The Girl Scouts have also been actively trying to get passage of the Healthy Media for Youth Act, a bill which promotes healthier images of women in the media.
“The fashion industry remains a powerful influence on girls and the way they view themselves and their bodies,” says Kimberlee Salmond, a senior researcher at the Girl Scout Research Institute. “Teenage girls take cues about how they should look from models they see in fashion magazines and on TV and it is something that they struggle to reconcile with when they look at themselves in the mirror.”
Once again I have another shoe to add to my ever-growing wish list. Is it me or do all celebs like the same thing?, lol. Ever since last year these pumps have been showing up on various Hollywood starlets in abundance. I think they are so cute. You can pair them with skinny jeans or a mini-dress. The Christian Louboutin Pumps retail for almost $2,000 and can be purchased from Saks or Barneys, but I have found a couple of really close look alikes:
