Oscars 2011: “The Fashion & Winner’s List”

Host Anne Hathaway in a Lanvin Tuxedo and Brian Atwood Pumps

Mila Kunis in Elie Saab

Halle Berry in Marchesa

Hailee Steinfeld, in Marchesa

This is one time where I give best dressed to the wife/partner of  an attendee. Matthew McConaughey and his beautiful partner Camila Alves walked the red carpet, he in head to toe Dolce & Gabbana as its fragrance brand ambassador. Camila wore a Kaufman Franco dress, Stuart Weitzman shoes, Lorraine Schwartz jewelry and Kotur bag. Camila looked like royalty on the red carpet. The hair, jewels and everything was perfection!

Oscars Red Carpet Pics: “The Ladies In Red”

Whooh, did everybody’s stylist tonight have red on the brain? As I sit here watching the Oscars Red Carpet arrivals, I’ve counted more than 5 actresses/presenters in the color of red. All are gorgeous none the less.   Jennifer Hudson’s Versace dress appears red on TV but it is actually a tangerine color. It looks fantastic on her by the way. Host Anne Hathaway is in Valentino Couture circa 2002. Would you believe that Penelope Cruz just gave birth a few short weeks ago? She looks Uber-fab. Take a look at some of the “Red” Carpet arrivals:

Milan Fashion Week Fall 2011: “Moschino”

The Moschino Fall 2011 runway show was this morning in Milan and it seems that the “menswear” as “womenswear” trend is here to stay for a little while longer. This collection is filled with sleek tailored tuxedo jackets, commerbuns, bow ties and even chauffeur’s hats. But then on the flip-side, the dresses that are in this collection are ultra-feminine. They resemble an Audrey Hepburn “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” theme. I also notice that  Rossella Jardini, creative directorof the Moschino line,  is taking Que from Chanel and replicating the signature CoCo styled suit. First Lady Michelle Obama is a fan of the Moschino brand so I can’t wait to see which look she’ll be rockin at her next event.

How To Get That Look: “Amber Riley’s Sequins Dress in Essence Magazine”

Was I the only one drooling over “Glee” star Amber Riley’s sequins dress in the Essence Mag? For weeks I’ve been wondering where could I find a similar dress in plus-size without breaking the bank. Amber is wearing a $525 dress by designer LaQuan Smith. But leave it up to my fashion icon, Kim Kardashian, to get the look for us curvy girls. The Kardashian clan has a line out with QVC called K-Dash and I just discovered a similar dress in the Kardashian collection to the one that Amber wore in the magazine. Now although Amber’s dress appears to be silver sequins, the one from K-Dash is black but could pass. It hits mid-thigh just like Amber’s and has the same sexy look to it. (Mind you the mannequin wearing the K-Dash dress has no curves or shape so use your imagination here). Best thing it goes from size 0-22.

The Look For Less: “The YSL ‘Palais’ Pumps vs. Bakers”

Well, well, well, what do we have here. When I tell you that I have been waiting for a “replica” shoe like this, believe me. I first fell in love with the Yves Saint Laurent, or YSL, pump called the “Palais” when it debuted last year. But I honestly wasn’t gonna shell out $720 on a “trendy” pump like this just yet. (Well not until I get to “thousandaire” status anyway, lol). Then it came out with a mohawk style for $935 later on last year.  YSL has come out with signature heel pumps over the last few seasons and other designers often tend to replicate them very well. Take for instance the popular YSL Tribute pump. Steve Madden and others have come up with very similar styles to it. But I knew it wouldn’t be long before someone got this new Palais heel down pack. To my surprise I just woke up to an email from Bakers and they’re having a weekend special on a shoe by The Wild Pair that looks almost identical to the YSL. I’m jumping  for joy right about now. The Wild Pair shoe comes in my size, various colors and is only $69.99 this weekend. Whoot, whoot, now if only they would do a mohawk version too I’d be set!

Milan Fashion Week Fall 2011: “Gucci”

Yesterday started Milan Fashion Week and the designer house of Gucci was one of the first shows to premiere. Once again, bright colors take over the runways for this fall. Gucci has taken a page out of history back from when Tom Ford was the head designer. This collection has all the classic and structured details as Tom Ford used during the early 90′s. Frida Giannini presented a Gucci Fall 2011 collection of luxe 70′s inspired glam looks. Furs, fedoras and bow ties ruled the catwalk. This collection is giving me an overall Al Capone feminine gangster type of feel.
