My Interview for CBS “Virginia This Morning” on Kids Fall Fashion

I was invited last month to come back onto the CBS “Virginia This Morning” show to do segment on kids back-to-school fashion. The interview was originally scheduled to be done last week before school started but due to Hurricane Irene we had to postpone it until yesterday. So instead of calling it “Back to School Fashion” we changed it to “Kids Fall Fashion”. Since we did a pre-taping it won’t air until Monday, September 12th at 9:00am.  Many people believe that all I do is styling for plus-size women but in all actuality I style everybody, from kids, to men & women, career clients to models, down to party planning and interior decorating. So for this segment I had three models, 2 girls and a boy to fashionably get ready for the upcoming season.

The day started off with everyone arriving to the studio around 9am to get dressed and for last minute prepping. I did final touch-ups on everyone to be sure they were camera ready. One of my models mother, Ms. Quan, blessed us all with a wonderful prayer and that really calmed everyone’s nerves. Once we were settled we were allowed to be in a private conference room and that was really great since my hairdresser was also on set and needed to do touch-ups to my hair. I then had my little models to do a run-through of their model poses and that was fun. Before long, we were being escorted back to the actual recording studio.

The staff is always so courteous at CBS. Samantha greeted us upon arrival and then escorted us to the back. Even one of the cameramen assisted the models while on air with their posing  The parents, my hairdresser and even my friend were all allowed to go on set too. I thought that was really nice for extra support. Once back in the studio we were greeted by newscasters Cheryl Miller and Jessica Noll. After snapping a few pics it was time for my segment to record.

My first model was little Ms. Amare and she was representing the trend of “Faux Fur and Jeggings”.

My second model was Solomon and he was wearing an “Urban Preppy” look:

“The Rocawear, Christian Louboutin and Eiffel Tower Barbie Dolls”

Ok I have a confession to make. I may be a woman of a “certain age” but I have an obsession with Barbie Dolls. Well I haven’t actually started a full collection yet but I know which models that I want. I’ve been window shopping for them for awhile now and some of you may have seen my Twitpics of one or two. I’m just waiting until Black Friday for some of the sales that may be offered on them. Well imagine my surprise when I discovered that they now have “Rocawear” Barbie dolls.  The collection is called “So In Style”. What caught my attention is the “urban” feel that this line takes on. It’s very “ghetto fabulous”.  I also like the “Eiffel Tower” and “Statue of Liberty” Barbie’s too. I mean how unique is that. Oooh and remember the Christian Louboutin Barbie from a year or so ago? I don’t care who laughs at me, I WANT ME A BARBIE DOLL FOR CHRISTMAS, (hint, hint, lol). I know these dolls will be worth lots of money down the road, especially if you don’t open the package. Here are my fave Barbie dolls:

The B-Styles Kid of the Day: “Qua’edyn Imani Goins”

As a parent I have a weak spot for cute little kiddies and today’s honor goes to a little princess I’ve been watching for a while, Qua’edyn Goins.  I’m facebook friends with & have modeled before with Qua’edyn’s mom, Quansilla Goins, so I get to see all the pics she post of Qua’edyn’s pageants. Can you say adorable? Almost makes me want to try again for a little girl….almost, lol. Anyway, I decided to make Qua’edyn my first “Kid of the Day” because she so deserves it. (Plus she’s currently in the running for the “Cute Kids Contest” so be sure to vote for her!)

Qua’edyn Imani Goins was born October 7th 2006 to Quansilla Goins and Franklin Derricott II.  Born with a head full of hair, Qua’edyn was introduced to the hair styling aspect of fashion at the very beginning!  She loved getting her hair done, and loved to do her dolls hair to match.  Having a mom that dipped into modeling in her teens, she was introduced to the rest of the industry quickly.  At the age of just 18months, Qua’edyn made her debut as the cover model for the November 2007 issue of All About Kids Magazine.  She sub sequentially started pageantry and modeling.

Now, at age 3 Qua’edyn excels in the pageant industry and is now looking to do more runway and print modeling.  She adapted the name “Imani Fierce” from a family friend due to her total image and focus on stage.  Qua’edyn transforms like no other into a true competitor on stage.  Her focus and dedication has made her a leading competitor in the pageant industry.  Along w/many Queen titles, some of the larger titles she holds includes; Toddler Miss East Coast Virginia 2009, Blossoming Beauties Grand Supreme 2010, Universal Beauties and Beaus Toddler Queen 2010 & Dixieland Dolls & Darlings Overall Most Beautiful VA State 2010.  Her next pageant adventure will be at Virginia’s Fabulous Dolls where she is practicing hard for yet another title!  Along with her next pageant, she is currently in an online photo contest.  In July 2010 she did a photo shoot at Bumble & Co with Real Life Studios for the contest and had a great time!  She hopes to win the contest where not only she will win great prizes, but a portion of the proceeds go towards the Down Syndrome Foundation of Richmond. Along with her pageants, Community Service plays a huge role in her day to day life!

During her downtime, Qua’edyn loves playing w/her cousins and recently started Christian School wear she participates in daily prayer and community activities!  After a long day Qua’edyn comes home and just wants a cool Popsicle, her dolls, and most important….time to Watch Dora the Explorer!

Look out for Qua’edyn Imani! She’s a force to be reckoned with!

Back-To-School Shopping Tips & Basics for 2010

Even though we’re still in the midst of summer fun it’s also time for parents to start thinking about Back-to-School items for the kiddies. I myself started even before school ended to get the best deals. “You know at the end of the season stores really reduce items”. So back in May I was able to rack up on name brand-name clothing such as Lacoste & Ralph Lauren for dirt cheap at Macy’s. (I didn’t have this blogsite back then but next time a sale comes up like that I’ll be sure to share it with you all). Anyway, I’ve been getting sale emails for over a week now so I decided to give you all a head start on this difficult task. Here are just a few tips that I found of interest to assist parents with their back to school shopping:

- Go to Wal-Mart for school lists and check out their supply aisles for “super” discounts

- Read the Sunday newspaper ads weekly because Staples & Office Max often do 1cent deals

- If your child(ren) have to wear uniforms check out places like K-Mart & even the thrift store for inexpensive khakis

- Shop during tax free weekend  (check your state website for this info)

- Shop at outlet malls for bargains

Introducing Kid Chef “Darian Davis”

I’m sitting here watching last Friday’s Wendy Williams show on my DVR and I am absolutely smitten with this kid chef. His name is Darian Davis of Dallas, TX and he’s only 12-years old. He is the son of plus-size model, Lisa Scott. Darian’s passion for cooking started as a dare from his mom. Out of his mom’s frustration with getting his four year old brother to eat fruits and vegetables, his mom challenged him to create a meal that his brother would eat that included fruits and or vegetables.  That’s where all the magic happened. He creates healthy meals, that are all kid friendly, and tests them out on his four-year old brother.  His meals are prepared on either a George Foreman grill or quesadilla maker so no oven is needed. He also has a recipe book coming out soon. Darian’s future plans are to go to culinary school, to play basketball and to be an entertainment lawyer. I wish him all the best and will be keeping an eye out for his future projects!

Here’s the clip of him on The Wendy Williams Show:

BABY BANANA PUDDING
There is nothing better than a homemade meal. I tasted my baby brother Dash’s baby food and it tasted better than pudding. So, I came up with baby banana pudding made with banana baby food (trust me its  great) and arrow root animal cookies. I use arrow root animal cookies because of no presevatives or food coloring, and are absolutely delicious. You will need 10 large jars of banana baby food and 1 box of arrow root animal cookies, this can be found in the baby aisle of any grocery store. Add approximately 3 large sliced bananas and start layering that baby!

Fashionable Children’s Clothing & Accessories

There’s an old saying that goes, “A child should be seen and not heard”. I fully support that. There’s nothing better than a well behaved, mannerable child. But that child should also be well groomed too. If you as a parent are gonna walk around in designer or decent clothing, then so should your child. Don’t get me wrong, if you can’t afford it, then no you shouldn’t spend a fortune on your kids clothing. But just make sure that they are presentable when they leave the house for school , church, etc. So with that said, I’m sharing some cute kiddie duds that I’ve found at different boutiques:
