The Spring 2012 Paris Haute Couture Fashion Shows

This week were the Spring 2012 Haute Couture Shows in Paris. Top designers from Donatella Versace, Givenchy, Chanel and Armani Prive showed their collections. This was actually Versace’s first couture show since 2004. Jean Paul Gaultier’s Spring/Summer 2012 Haute-Couture Show was inspired by the style of the late Amy Winehouse. Haute Couture are designs that you would most likely see on A-list celebs at red carpet events or on stage during concert performances. The designs are 9 times outta 10 not everyday wearable. Designer Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel staged his show to look like the inside of an airplane while designer Elie Saab had his show based off of a fairy-tale. Take a look for yourself:.

The House of Dereon Launch at Selfridge’s London

This past Saturday during “London Fashion Week”, singer Beyonce and her mother Tina Knowles were there in London for the launch of the new House of Dereon collection. Beyonce says the collection was inspired by her world travels but it mostly has an African feel to it. Beyonce has really tapped into the African heritage since doing those dances derived from Africa for the “Run the World’ video. Models sauntered down the runway in dark blue lips paired with long straight hair with a side part, a short haircut or a curly afro. The lips were complemented by dark angled brows and a gold shimmery line down the models’ faces and chests that mirrored tribal paint. See below as headwraps, feathered neck-pieces and face paintings screamed TRIBAL!

My Birthday/Fashion Show Extravaganza at Ashley Stewart

On Saturday, September 17, 2011, I hosted my birthday party and a fashion show at the Ashley Stewart store here in Richmond, VA. All of my family, friends and model buddies came out to support this event. I put together 21 looks on 7 models from the new Fall collection from Ashley Stewart. The show went perfect. My DJ, J-Roc, had the house jumping from the moment customers walked into the store and once we got started my commentator, Earl “Christmas Snow” Fleming, hyped up the crowd even more. I had models & hostesses’ come from as far as Baltimore, Northern Virginia to the Hampton Roads area to participate in this event. (Special thank you to TJ, Quan, Twannet, Kim, Autumn, Nellonda, Manaya, Crystal & LaTonya).

Since the theme for Ashley Stewart this season is “Passport to Fashion”, I divided the show into 3 parts, each one representing a different city. Scene One was Paris, Scene Two was London and Scene Three was New York. The Paris scene was filled with hues of grey and black to represent the old classic look of the city. For London I had bold bright colors to bring out the essence of “royalty”. Lastly for the New York scene I went for daring ensembles that you would see fashionistas wearing from Times Square to Madison Square Garden.

Fashion’s Night Out Plus at BeautyFull Boutique in Alexandria, VA

Last night was the first ever Fashion’s Night Out dedicated to plus-size women and it was held here in Virginia at BeautyFull Boutique in Old Town Alexandria. After a long morning doing the taping for the CBS segment I then had to turn around and hit the road to attend this wonderful event. Luckily to make the ride go by smoothly I had fellow plus-size models LaTonya “Bubbles” Mann, Autumn Richardson and Crystal Diggs to ride with and boy did we have an adventure. After leaving Richmond yesterday afternoon we headed straight to Alexandria. Not even the torrential rainfall that we got caught in near Fredericksburg could stop us. We just had to make a pit stop to find somewhere dry to change our clothes and shoes. Yes, you didn’t really think that we were gonna ride for 2-hours all dolled up did you? (LOL) We sought shelter in the parking deck at Landmark Mall. You should have seen us all jumping outside the car to do make-up, change hair and clothes and switch shoes. It was a hilarious sight, but divas gotta do what divas gotta do. And it was all worth it too. Autumn got best dressed of the night and LaTonya got best shoes of the night. They both received a bottle of Queen Latifah’s new perfume as a door prize!

Once we arrived at the boutique we were greeted by swarms of waiters with trays of h’ordeuvres and margaritas. I don’t usually drink but I just had to try one. BeautyFull was setup so nicely with chairs in the main area for the fashion show presentation and a separate glass enclosed area for VIP. (Of course your girl got to sit in the VIP area, lol). Everyone who was someone in the DMV plus-size community was there. In attendance were Cassandra from Curvaceous Boutique, Theresa Flatts, beautiful curvy models & bloggers and Ms. Nina Taylor who served as the host for the night.

Featured designers for the night in addition to the clothing from BeautyFull Boutique were Pop Up Plus NYC, Ear Candy Accessories, Nicky B and Curvysta. They each showcased their designs on the models and the audience was wowed. We were treated to fabulous arrays of fascinator head pieces, bold statement jewelry and some curvy clothes that will be sure to turn heads.

As Fashion Editor with Skorch I got a chance to meet with a few models that  I will be working with on an upcoming issue. I’m super excited for that. It’s always great to network and meet new people. Some attendee’s and I were already facebook friends so we got a chance to mingle one-on-one in person for a change.

Since it was raining so bad we had to cut the night short and get back on the road before it got too late. But that was ok. There was plenty more excitement once again on the drive back. I kept having LaTonya play one of my favorite songs right now, “Rolling Hills”, by Jill Scott. Poor Autumn, her ears couldn’t take it anymore. I wouldn’t even let anyone in the car talk while my song was on. If they talked, we had to restart the song. That was the funniest thing ever. We all have been on facebook all-day cracking up about last night. I would definitely attend this event again. It was such a positive aspect on the plus-size community.

“The Fall Into Fashion Birthday and Fashion Show Extravaganza” w/ Bella Styles and Ashley Stewart

It’s almost around my birthday time again and I just realized, I’ve NEVER had a big party. I didn’t do a sweet sixteen, a 21st birthday party nor anything special when I turned the big 3-0. So now that I’m hitting “another” milestone year I figured why not do it big, even if I’m doing it myself. Plus what better way for me to celebrate than to combine what I love most, my friends and business associates, with fashion, networking and fun. So myself along with one of my number one business sponsors, Ashley Stewart, have decided to have what we’re calling “The Fall Into Fashion Birthday & Fashion Show Extravaganza”.

Come celebrate my birthday with me and enjoy an evening filled with fun, friends and fashion at Ashley Stewart in Richmond, Virginia. I will be hosting a fashion show featuring the new Fall 2011 collection from Ashley Stewart on some of the hottest plus-size models on the east coast. More info to be added soon!!!

Video: “The Ashley Stewart Fashion Show During Full Figured Fashion Week™”

The finale for Full Figured Fashion Week™ was this past Saturday night in NYC and I was so lucky to be in attendance. One of the presenters there was Ashley Stewart. They debuted their new Fall 2011 collection. Very hot I might add too. I was drooling over high-waisted pants, a ruffle leather-type shirt and a black jacket with sheer inserts that I could have jumped on stage for. As always Ashley Stewart’s jewelry and accessories were on point. Here’s the video re-cap:

Evie Foster is a curvy woman on a mission. She is 40 something, a mother and a proud new grandmother.

She has been in the RAAF, a personal assistant, a personal development and modelling teacher, and a business development executive. And now, Evie is following her passion, to provide plus size women with beautiful choices in fashion. Evie was once one of Brisbane’s most successful plus size models and, every now and then, you will still see her rockin’ it on a runway or gracing the pages of a catalogue. She describes her life as ‘never a dull moment’ and has the tenacity, strength, style and savvy needed to succeed in this industry.

Evie has always been an advocate for the empowerment of women and this is just another avenue through which she is determined to make a difference. Evie will not only be creating fabulous clothing, but will be working hard at smashing the stigma attached to the words PLUS SIZE. Evie says of plus size women – “we are fat, not blind and we want fashion that fits, is comfortable, has a bit of sexy about it, and makes us feel like a goddess when we are wearing it”.

Evie Foster’s mission is provide fashion for women with curves, to help them look and feel beautiful!

Evie Foster is a refreshing new label in fashion that is designed to fit and accentuate the beauty of curves.

The label is about style, fit, versatility and comfort. The designs are created to fit the body properly by accentuating a woman’s most alluring asset, her curves.
