Model Call for RVA Fashion Week, Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Short Pump Mall

Hey Richmond, it’s about that time of year again. RVA Fashion Week is scheduled for April 15-21, 2012. It will be a week filled with fashion shows, designer showcases and more. I attended the finale show last year and was very pleased with what Richmond had to offer in the fashion field. So I’m super excited to see what’s planned for this years events.

Tomorrow, Saturday, March 3, 2012, there will be a model call for both male and females, all ages, & “all” shapes and sizes.

It will be held at Short Pump Mall in Glen Allen, Virginia from 12pm-4pm. Good luck to all who try out. Details below:

New York Fashion Week, Fall 2012: “Tadashi Shoji”

Yesterday started New York Fashion Week for the Fall 2012 season. Everybody who is somebody is in New York for the next 7 days previewing all the designer collections that will be available later this year. One of the first shows yesterday was that of designer Tadashi Shoji. Tadashi’s clothing has become a favorite at red carpet affairs, especially awards shows. I really admire Tadashi Shoji because of his consideration for the curvy woman. Many full-figure starlets are seen in his gowns. Most recently SAG winner Octavia Spencer from “The Help”. I personally own a Tadashi Shoji gown that I have been waiting to bring out but I just haven’t had the occasion yet. Believe you me, it’s “Oscar” worthy too. But as far as his Fall 2012 collection goes, here are a few that stood out to me from his runway show yesterday:

The Spring 2012 Paris Haute Couture Fashion Shows

This week were the Spring 2012 Haute Couture Shows in Paris. Top designers from Donatella Versace, Givenchy, Chanel and Armani Prive showed their collections. This was actually Versace’s first couture show since 2004. Jean Paul Gaultier’s Spring/Summer 2012 Haute-Couture Show was inspired by the style of the late Amy Winehouse. Haute Couture are designs that you would most likely see on A-list celebs at red carpet events or on stage during concert performances. The designs are 9 times outta 10 not everyday wearable. Designer Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel staged his show to look like the inside of an airplane while designer Elie Saab had his show based off of a fairy-tale. Take a look for yourself:.

London Fashion Week: “Sass & Bide”, Spring 2012

London Fashion Week started on Friday and I have to say that designer label, Sass & Bide, has wowed me again with their new Spring 2012 collection. If you noticed I didn’t blog on any of the New York Fashion Week shows last week because none of the collections really caught my attention. (Or maybe I was just too busy to really give my full attention to every detail). But now that London Fashion Week has started, I see pops of color and style that is very eye catching. Sass & Bide creators, Sarah-Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton, have incorporated bold hues of blue, yellow and orange and the neck pieces that are a must-have!

“Fashion’s Night Out Plus and Model Call”

Yes, yes, yes, finally, the curvy girls get a “Fashion’s Night Out” event. As all fashionistas should already know, Fashion’s Night Out is “the” hottest event of the year for retailers and designers. It’s a night filled with shopping, fashion and fun. It’s usually the first or second Friday in September leading up to New York Fashion Week’s tent shows. Although this year it will be held on Thursday, September 8th. The past couple of years, more cities globally have been getting involved in this event.  But up until now there hasn’t been much recognition in the plus-size community on this special night. I for one must say that in addition to having a successful “Full Figured Fashion Week” the past few years, this “Fashion’s Night Out Plus” is groundbreaking. Not to mention that it’s being held right here in my home state of VA, so I can’t complain at all. Please support this venture and I will keep you all posted on further info as it comes my way!!!

Pics from “The Full Figured and Fabulous” Competition during FFFWeek

While at FFFWeek last week in NYC, I attended the “Full Figured and Fabulous” modeling competition that Friday night. Twenty curvy aspiring models competed in three rounds of categories for the crown. The categories were 1) Creativity with the official “FFF” T-Shirt, 2) A Funky Outfit and 3) A red evening gown. The contestants really came out of the box for this competition. There were dresses made with actual bubbles on them, a lil’ old school flavor and a whole lotta creativity all the way around. But in the end Niemah Haskins was the lucky winner who took home the new Ms. “Full Figured and Fabulous” crown.

The K-Mart “Bloggers Brunch” During Full Figured Fashion Week™

On this past Saturday morning, a select number of curvy-bloggers were privy to viewing the new “LYS”, (Love Your Style, Love Your Size), collection from K-Mart. Long gone are the days of frumpy fashion in the plus-size departments. K-Mart has really stepped up to the plate, as many plus-size retailers are doing nowadays. In this new line from LYS there are jumpsuits, trendy skirts, maxi dresses and prints that are all right on trend. One of my favorite dresses from the collection is a navy blue print mid thigh dress and the back is cut-out which looked to me like a “butterfly” design. Too cute. The burnt orange jumpsuit is a knock-out as well. Many curvy shoppers are catching on to the K-Mart style change. A couple of ladies in the room had on the same piece from the line. That was oddly coincidental. No one will believe these stylish ensembles are from K-Mart. The brunch was hosted by celebrity stylist Jorge Ramon and the LYS design team. I for one will be visiting ALL my local K-Mart’s ASAP to find my fave pieces before they’re gone!!!

Video: “The Ashley Stewart Fashion Show During Full Figured Fashion Week™”

The finale for Full Figured Fashion Week™ was this past Saturday night in NYC and I was so lucky to be in attendance. One of the presenters there was Ashley Stewart. They debuted their new Fall 2011 collection. Very hot I might add too. I was drooling over high-waisted pants, a ruffle leather-type shirt and a black jacket with sheer inserts that I could have jumped on stage for. As always Ashley Stewart’s jewelry and accessories were on point. Here’s the video re-cap:

OOTD: Colorblocking with the Anna Scholz Jumpsuit for Simply Be

My outfit for the panel discussion yesterday was by Anna Scholz for the UK company Simply Be. It was the stretch jersey jumpsuit in purple. This was another one of my outfits I put together in my head a while ago, even before I received it. (Thanks to Simply Be for getting it to me in the knick of time. They were great at sponsoring me with quite a few items for Full Figured Fashion Week™). I wanted to try the colorblocking trend with this jumpsuit and therefore I added a different colored belt than the one that comes with it. My shoes were a multi-zebra print and I added accessories with colors from the shoe print. My earrings are a pair that I got while in NYC are they are from Earrings Plaza. They’re representing the “feather” trend. The jumpsuit was ultra comfy and made of a great jersey material. I like when I can have a jumpsuit that has gathering at the ankles because that allows you to not have to keep making sure they’re not covering your shoes. Afterall, you want those fierce pumps to show!
