Celebrating My 2-Year Blogiversary and More Announcements!!!

Yeahhhhh, I made it!!!!! I’m so glad to be celebrating having my blog for two-years now. Even though I have been blogging for Skorch Magazine since 2007, I started my own personal blog back in May 2010. So with all the behind the scenes revamping I’ve been doing, I have been off the blogisphere radar for a couple of weeks. But I have been quietly re-branding my site. Now don’t get me wrong, even though I was not tweeting and blogging very much, I still stayed in the know with all the curvy news, fashion and trends. Which brings me to my first announcement. I took a step back and looked at what is the major content that I deliver to my followers and realized that I mostly blog on ‘what is trendy’. So therefore for those who may not have noticed already, I have renamed my blog from ‘The Bella Styles Blog” to “Trendy Curves” by Bella Styles. I figured that I’m the kinda girl who likes to keep up with trends ( but I also believe in having key a few classic pieces as well). But for the most part, I wanna keep the curvy ladies up to date with what’s hot in the plus-size fashion market. So be on the lookout for more “Trend Alert” blog post coming your way.

Speaking of trends, I officially have a new logo design as shown above!

After spring cleaning my closet last month, even after giving away most of my items, I realized that I had a few hard to find pieces that other curvy ladies would probably love to get their hands on. So that inspired me to venture out into the eCommerce market and start my own website for selling some of my clothing and accessories that I have only used maybe once or twice specifically for my blog or a photoshoot. The name of my new venture is “Around the Curve Fashions”™. My slogan is “Curvy Fashion That’s Only Been On A Test Drive”.

“Around The Curve Fashions” is a website for ladies who are looking to purchase like-new stylish and trendy plus-size clothing that has previously only been worn maybe once or twice for photoshoots, blog posts or special events. The name ‘Around the Curve’ symbolizes the curvy woman and the slogan is compared to that of a buyer on a test drive for a great secondhand car. Meaning the items are like-new but in great condition. Some items are even new with tags, and payments can be made via PayPal. I travel and shop allover for the latest, unique items for the curvier woman. I have top designer labels and boutique clothing from the USA, London and Australia. Be sure to browse through the different pages for the specific items that you are looking for. At ‘Around The Curve Fashions’™ you will find dresses, shoes, accessories and more. I will be adding new stock frequently.

Lastly, I did a photoshoot just for myself and the relaunch of my updated blog. I teamed up with photographer George Butler of “Moments Forever Photography”, hairstylist Tahnesha Ervin of “Top Notch Styles” and famed VA makeup artist, Earl Fleming. Now even though I renamed my blog ”Trendy Curves” by Bella Styles, I wanted to go for an Old Hollywood Glamour Look in some of the pics and a trendy look in the others. Just showing my versatility in the curvy fashion world. You can keep up with the current trends and be classy at the same time. (You can read the photoshoot blog post here).  I ‘never’ wear my hair up so I asked Tahnesha to go all out with my bun and she delivered above the call of duty. I showed both Tahnesha and my MUA Earl a pic of  Beyonce at the Oscars and said that was the look I was going for. Earl gave me a smoky eye then popped it with a blue liner that set off the entire look of my makeup. I was so pleased. George knew just the poses to direct me in and the atmosphere on set just meshed perfectly. Thanks to all of my colleagues, models, bloggers and followers for hanging in there with me on my style journey.

Stay tuned for more info on a special blogiversary celebration coming soon!!!

CONFIRMED: Beyonce is Pregnant!!!

Unless you live under a rock then you should already know by now that triple-threat star Beyonce revealed last night during the VMA’s that yes, she is indeed pregnant. She literally stole the show. No one could upstage her last night. Beyonce arrived in an orange Lanvin gown and announced the news to the paparazzi on the red carpet.  I couldn’t be more happier for her and hubby Jay-Z. I’ve been waiting to hear this news forever. Ok, I know I don’t personally know them but if any of my readers realize by now, Beyonce is probably the only performer that I blog on on a regular basis. That’s because she’s my favorite singer. Although I was unable to watch the awards live last night due to my power still being out from the Hurricane, I had certain tweet updates sent to my phone and that’s how I was able to keep up with the live show. I mean you would really think that she’s naming me the baby’s Godmother or something. That’s how happy I am for them. Her and Jigga are a power couple and he’s 42 with no kids. I felt it was about time for them to pop one out. You never hear of any  ”drama” with them and I like to see couples keep it that way. I mean how many times do you hear of a man having a “love child” with a mistress. Didn’t want that to happen to them if you know what I mean. So congrats to the Carters!!!!!

Sidenote: Who else can’t wait to see the fly maternity clothes and pics this chic is about to take, whoooh whooh!!!

In case you missed her performance:

Celebrity Fashion Stylist Rachel Zoe Gives Birth To A Boy!!!

Congrats are in order for fashion stylist to the stars, Rachel Zoe, on the birth of her first child. I have personally followed Rachel’s career for years and am a fan of her reality show. Last season her husband, Rodger, made it clear that he wanted a child asap and it looks like their dream came true this week.

Following reports earlier this week that the flamboyant stylist was in labor, the delivery of Zoe’s first child has been confirmed. A 6-pound, 12-ounce boy named Skyler has just become Zoe’s hottest and most exclusive summer accessory. Congratulations to Rachel and her husband Rodger!!!

The 2010 “Kardashian” Christmas Card

The tradition of the Kardashian family to pose annually for Christmas continued this year with their Christmas Card 2010 photo. The family of Kardashians, known for their reality TV shows, has published a set of of photos for their Christmas greeting cards, all wearing a formal wear with the background of their grand stair.

One of the Kardashians, Kim Kardashian, expressed in her blog that this year’s Kardashian family Christmas Card 2010 is extra special because there’s an additional member to the family. “Every year the whole family gets together to take pics for our family Christmas card. This year was extra special because we had a new addition to the family… little Mason! “We went super glam this year and each went for our own look. (To me though it’s kinda reminiscent of “The Addams Family”)

Don’t Let the Bedbugs Bite!?!?!

Remember when you were young and your parents used to tuck you into bed at night and they would say that famous bedtime quote? “Nighty, nite and don’t let the bedbugs bite”. Well now that saying has more meaning to it than ever. During the past couple of months there has been an outbreak of bedbugs showing up here in the US more than ever. No one or place is immune to it. Famous locations such as the Elle Magazine offices, The Waldorf Astoria Hotel and The Howard Stern Show studios have been affected. Being that I love fashion and mostly blog on this subject this is an important subject to discuss. There are many precautions to take when wearing clothing, sleeping on sheets and everyday circumstances that you must know. I received an email this morning with tips on how to prevent bedbugs so I felt that I must share with my readers:

Since much of our clothing, sheets, towels, etc. now comes from companies outside of America , (sad but true), even the most expensive stores sell foreign clothing from China , Indonesia , etc. The bed bugs are coming in on the clothing as these countries do not consider them a problem. It is recommended that if you buy any new clothing, even underwear and socks, sheets, towels, etc. that you bring them into the house and put them in your clothes dryer for at least 20 minutes. The heat will kill them and their eggs. DO NOT PURCHASE CLOTHES AND HANG THEM IN THE CLOSET FIRST. It does not matter what the price range is of the clothing, or if the outfit comes from the most expensive store known in the U.S. They still get shipments from these countries and the bugs can come in a box of scarves or anything else for that matter. That is the reason why so many stores, many of them clothing stores have had to shut down in NYC and other places. If you buy clothing from a thrift shop or a yard sale, make sure it is washed in hot water before wearing it. All you need is to bring one item into the house that has bugs or eggs and you will go to hell and back trying to get rid of them.

Bella Styles BedBug Tips:

- I get alot of clothing shipped to me from oversees so I suggest before wearing anything, US made or abroad, take it to the cleaners. Especially if it’s a good fabric that you wouldn’t want to shrink in the washer, dry clean it. Here in Virginia we have very inexpensive cleaners called “The $1.99 cleaners. Try a place like that where you can be budget conscious.

-Wash all bedsheets before using them. I don’t care the thread count or what top store you got them from, WASH THEM BEFORE USING!

- When traveling, wrap your luggage in plastic if at all possible. In a terminal recently I saw a traveler with his suitcase all wrapped up and couldn’t figure out why. Now I know. Better safe than sorry.

- When you check into a hotel room, use the luggage stand instead of putting your suitcase on the floor

-I use slipcovers on my sofa. It may just be one of my OCD issues but that way I can wash it whenever I feel like it and not have direct germs, or bedbugs, or the sofa itself

- Use a mattress pad on your bed. A mattress pad is washable and that way you can clean it often and it’s a separator between your actual mattress and your flat sheet

Kimora Lee Simmons is NO LONGER doing Baby Phat

I was just over on Twitter and read this breaking news story. It’s all so ironic to me being that I just watched her reality show this weekend showcasing her Baby Phat line from last year’s Fashion Week. But I knew something had to be up because when I looked at the New York Fashion Week show schedule a few weeks ago, I noticed that Baby Phat wasn’t listed. Hmmmm????

Below story is via Freddy O:

kimora-russell
Kimora Lee Simmons  announced that she is no longer nursing her 14 year-old   Baby Phat and Phat Fashions. According to E!Online, Kimora will be dissolving her relationship as of September 1st to focus on other business ventures such as her clothing lines, KLS, Fabulosity and Kouture by Kimora Collection for Macys.

“After 14 years of conceiving and nurturing Baby Phat, it’s time for me to move on and further expand my other businesses and create a new phenomenon,” Kimora says. “I adore all those who have faithfully been with me since the beginning.” “I’m forever dedicated to my family, fans and customers. My inspiration has always come from the fabulous women who have been with me through the years as we’ve grown from young party girls to power players! “We’re ready for our next journey together and we’re taking a whole new generation of incredible young women with us. Girl power unite!”

Kimora went to Twitter to let fans know that there will be no Baby Phat fashion show during Fashion week this year, something she blames on execs. “I will not b there. And corporate has decided not 2 do one!”—>RT@starchild36: @OfficialKimora “Can I come to the Baby Phat show for fashion week?”
The star of ‘Kimora: Life in the Fab Lane’ also tweeted that her daughters Ming Lee and Aoki Lee –who currently both model for the line – will also be ending relations with Baby Phat.

She stayed on as creative director after the company was sold in 2004 as part of a massive $140 million (£93.3 million) deal, but she has now quit to pursue other fashion projects.

Kimora will continue designing her other three fashion lines, including KLS, Kouture by Kimora, and Fabulosity, her JCPenney juniors’ line. She also still has her own reality show and fragrances.

Crystal Renn in the Chanel Ad for the SoHo Boutique Re-Opening

Plus size model Crystal Renn has once again rubbed shoulders with designer Karl Lagerfield to promote one of his ads. He’s re-opening his store in SoHo and she’s in the steamy ad with the hot male model Baptiste Giabiconi. Renn remarked, “Karl is a genius. He’s a Virgo so we’re compatible and we got on really well,” adding that Giabiconi is “the most gorgeous man I’ve ever seen hands down. I remember being on set and trying not to stare but staring at him methodically nonetheless to try to figure out how perfection in a male looks. It’s insane when you look at him”. ”Working with Chanel has been my dream forever. As long as I’ve been working as a model I’ve been thinking about Chanel and working towards Chanel and this campaign is the proudest moment of my life.” This marks the second time (that we know of) that Crystal has worked with Chanel. She walked in the Cruise show in May. The store is set to open next month. Here’s the ad and store info:

Plus-Size fashions to Expand to Major Design Houses such as Dolce & Gabbana, Chanel, Fendi & more…

Call them real-sized or plus-sized, women of all shapes are establishing a weightier presence in the fashion world, garnering greater attention from fashion designers, retailers, and advertisers.

Many women accept themselves, whatever their appearance, and wish to see to see this sentiment reflected in the use of models of all sizes and ages both on the runways and in advertising.

A growing number of international designers, including Prada, Marc Jacobs, Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Dolce & Gabbana have recently sent plus-sized models down the runways.

It’s a borderless trend, as Canadian designer Mark Fast included at least one plus-sized model at his show at London Fashion Week, and both Yves Saint Laurent and Canadian brand Joe Fresh Style have featured plus-sized model Crystal Renn on their runways.

“At Joe, we thought it would be great to show a diverse cast on the runway – including women with womanly bodies. So for the Joe Fresh Fall 2010 RTW show – we used Crystal Renn, a real-sized or plus-sized model and Kirsten Owen, an uber model who is still rocking the runways and magazines in her forties,” says Adrienne Shoom, head stylist for Joe Fresh Style.

“For the longest time, plus-sized women have felt that their voices have not been heard by the fashion industry. It’s great that designers are finally getting on board and realizing that this is not just a niche market. I’m plus-sized myself and although I also design a regular line with smaller sizes, I’m glad to be part of this trend toward designing for all shapes and sizes,” says Biffi.

“Following the negative press around models that are too thin, it appears that designers and retailers have finally realized that they can no longer avoid demographic facts about the women they serve; specifically, that the majority of women today are a size twelve or more,” says Kerry Mitchell, president of Addition Elle.

Mainstream retailers such as Sears and Zellers also see futures with heavier shares of plus-sized clothing.

“Sears offers over ten brands for plus-size women in response to demand from the buying public. We’re expanding the casting demographic in printed media to better reflect our Canadian consumers and are very excited to launch our first plus-size catalog, to be released in September, which focuses on the latest trends, styling tips and the best of fall fashion,” says Cynthia Florek, a brand and trend director at Sears Canada.

In store this fall at Zellers, Canadians will find an expanded plus-sized Pure collection by Canadian designer Alfred Sung, along with other plus-sized apparel.

“Fashion and style are not limited to size or income. Our plus customer is appreciative of the fact that they are being given the same trend-forward options that other customers have,” says Carrie Kirkman, a merchandise manager for Zellers ladies’ apparel.

This inclusivity for all women also extends to the beauty world, in advertising for established brands such as Dove.

“We’ve been using real women in our (advertising) campaigns since 2004 and receive overwhelmingly positive feedback from women demonstrating their support of our commitment to showing realistic and attainable images of real women, to represent beauty of all ages, ethnicities, shapes and sizes,” says Sharon MacLeod, a Dove Director.

Racked.com recently reported that Saks Fifth Avenue will soon add plus size garments to its high-end floor. Labels included are Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Toula, Akris, Armani, Carolina Herrera, Escada, Donna Karan, St. John, Oscar de la Renta, Max Mara, Valentino, Michael Kors, Yves Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen, Fendi and Roberto Cavalli. Most of these labels currently only offer up to size 10, whereas going forward some will introduce size 14, and others will go up to size 20. Sounds like great news, right? Well you better get there fast, as they’ll supposedly only stock one unit of each size!

Payless Shoe Source for “Fashion’s Night Out” in NYC

 PAYLESS SHOESOURCE LOGO

Payless ShoeSource, an original sponsor of last year’s successful and first-ever Fashion’s Night Out in New York City — created by Vogue, the Council of Fashion Designers of America, the City of New York and NYC & Company to promote retail and celebrate fashion in the city — today announced its participation in this year’s event with plans to help bring shoppers out for a fantastic night of shopping, affordable fashion, celebration and fun.

Plans includes Payless sponsoring the “Official Ride of Fashion’s Night Out” – six Gray Line double-decker buses decked out with the Fashion’s Night Out 2010 graphic, offering free rides for shoppers at key retail locations throughout Manhattan the evening of Sept. 10.  In addition, Payless will present a must-attend store event hosted by all four Payless Guest Designers: Christian Siriano, Lela Rose, Patricia Field and Isabel Toledo, as well as sell a philanthropic tote benefiting the NYC AIDS Fund and offer a VIP in NYC sweepstakes with the grand prize winner heading to NYC for Fashion’s Night Out with VIP treatment.

The late-night shopping event hosted by Payless Guest Designers will be held at the Payless store  at 716 Lexington Ave. (between 57th and 58th streets) where Siriano, Rose, Field, and Toledo will be available for a meet-and-greet and photo opportunity 8-10 p.m.  All four Payless designer labels will be on sale just in time for Fashion’s Night Out in select Payless stores — including the Lexington Ave. store — and Payless.com.  Shoppers are encouraged to bring their cameras for this fun photo opportunity.  Select stores throughout the five boroughs will stay open until 11 p.m. Sept. 10 as well.

Payless is also proud to support Fashion’s Night Out’s chosen beneficiary partner, the NYC AIDS Fund, with a charity tote that sports the official “cityscape graphic” created by Vogue for 2010.  The chic and functional reusable tote, perfect for a night of shopping, is made of grey rip-stop nylon with a tomato-red  lining.  The limited-edition Payless Fashion’s Night Out Totes will be sold for $10 in more than 40 stores throughout the city (while supplies last) beginning Sept. 10 with $5 per tote sold donated to the NYC AIDS Fund.  A limited quantity of totes pre-signed by all four Payless Guest Designers will be available at the Lexington store only Sept. 10 beginning at 7 p.m.

“Payless is thrilled to participate in New York City’s Fashion’s Night Out again this year with an exciting program that is sure to help bring shoppers out on this special night,” said LuAnn Via, CEO and president, Payless.  ”Our Lexington store event, with appearances by all four of our Guest Designers, is a must-attend and is sure to excite the designers’ fans, who can personally meet the designers behind the styles, while purchasing a piece from their just-in Payless fall collections.”

“As well, with the Payless-sponsored buses that will help get shoppers efficiently around the city that evening and our charity tote that will help raise money for the Fashion’s Night Out cause, we look forward to a celebratory night of shopping, fashion, fun and philanthropy.”

VIP in NYC Sweepstakes

Payless will give a lucky winner and his or her guest the opportunity to go to NYC and participate in Fashion’s Night Out with all its fashion, shopping, celebration and fun.  Payless has launched its VIP in NYC Sweepstakes with the Grand Prize — a trip for two and VIP treatment in NYC Sept. 7-11. The winner and their guest will attend the Sept. 7 Vogue-styled runway show at Lincoln Center, a VIP “push-to-the-front-of-the-line” meeting with all four Payless designers at the Sept. 10 store event, as well as a special visit with Christian Siriano at his NYC studio on Sept. 11, where Siriano will collaborate with the lucky winner to create a custom Christian Siriano apparel item.  Registration to win this amazing Grand Prize runs through Aug. 15 at the Payless Facebook Fan Page.

Payless Fall Designer Collections

The Payless designer collections of shoes and handbags for fall will hit stores just in time for Fashion’s Night Out at prices ranging from $35-$60 an item.

Christian Siriano for Payless: Siriano’s fall line is his fifth for the retailer and will feature seven shoe styles and three handbags inspired by 1960s Parisian women and their daily practice of getting dressed.  The line includes a strong use of exotic “croco” material with shoes pulling inspirations from antique furniture with such details as scrolled filigree ornamentation on flats and pumps.

Lela Rose for Payless: Lela Rose has done more than a dozen seasonal collections for Payless.  This season’s Lela Rose for Payless collection includes four shoe styles and three handbags,  inspired by the textural landscapes of the moon and earth. Flats and pumps embody this inspiration with uppers made of a “Satellite” print fabric with crystals scattered about to evoke a celestial vibe.  An ankle bootie and flat style feature chop-out detailing on the vamp to suggest moon rocks and the craggy surface of the Galapagos Islands.

Isabel Toledo for Payless: Isabel’s fall collection is her first for Payless.  The line channels “practical elegance” with fresh, chic essentials including seven shoe styles and three handbags.  Toledo’s main inspiration was to create a line of shoes that she personally would wear on a daily basis — shoes that make a bold fashion statement and are also functional for walking the streets of NYC in all kinds of weather.  The line has a strong graphic feel, especially evident in the Ghillie, a focal style done in a ballet flat and heeled wedge.

Patricia Field for Payless: Field has had a long-standing and close relationship with Payless for years – she styles the retailer’s TV and print ads and creates capsule collections.  Her most recent collection for Payless features a set of what she calls  ”Lucky Charms” — necklaces featuring unique charmed items, such as the over-sized four-leaf clover, inspired by her work on Sex and the City 2, or the Turkish Eye.  Field’s current Payless collection begins at $12.99 an item.
