The B-Styles Curvy Girl of the Day: “Christina Mendez”

As I was doing my usual plus-size online shopping this week I came across a very familiar face on the Ashley Stewart website. It was none other than curvy Latina model Christina Mendez. I first met Christina last year when we both worked on a show here in Virginia, but we had been in contact via text messages and social sites since late 2008 I believe. Christina made herself a household name when she did BET’s “Rip the Runway” in 2007. (Sidenote: Christina was first denied for BET’s “Rip the Runway” in 2006 but she tried again in 2007 and not only did she make it, but was a feature model on the behind the scenes special. That just proves to future models, “NEVER GIVE UP!!!”).  Since then her career has blossomed. I saw her just a few weeks ago when I was in NYC and she was modeling for Wilbur Pack. But just take a look at her resume:

Christina Mendez has graced the pages of Glamour, All You, Latina Magazine, The Source Magazine and many others. She’s worked the runway for BET’s Rip the Runway, NY Full Figured Fashion Week, Art of Curves, Macy’s and Lane Bryant’s In-Store Fashion Show in NYC. In June 2009 she became one of Essence.com’s newest virtual models. Christina has also become one of the first real-size, Hispanic Urban models to work as a featured model for brands such as Baby Phat, Apple Bottoms, Rocawear, Dereon and more. Besides appearing in various magazines and runway shows, Christina has been featured in national television segments including The Rachel Ray Show, Fox News, The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet, BET News, Lifetime’s “Matched in Manhattan” with Matt Titus, New York local favorites Good Day New York, CW11 and others. In 2009 Fox News named Ms. Mendez one of sexiest, most successful top plus size models in the industry and The Source Magazine Sept/Oct 2009 issue has declared Ms. Mendez one of the most influential Latinas. Christina Mendez is the mother of an Autistic son and is a strong advocate for autism awareness and a spokesperson for Autism Speaks; a national organization which was founded by former NBC’s Chairman Bob Wright.
