“The B-Styles Curvy Girl of the Day”: Courtney Mills


I first met Courtney Mills a few months ago on facebook through a mutual friend. She then enrolled  into my “Plus Academy VIRGINIA” Fall classes. But her plus-size modeling career has taken off  even before taking the first class. Courtney is the perfect example of how the way that you market yourself will get you far. She wore her “Size is Sexy” shirt to “Full Figured Fashion Week” in New York last month and it was an instant hit. The designers loved her in it and by the following week she was in Philadelphia doing her first photoshoot with that company. She even made the “Best Dressed” list of FFFW by Plus Model Magazine.

At first glance Courtney has a model look and then to top that she also dresses the part of a model . I got to witness first hand last week Courtney’s runway skills when I attended her very 1st  runway fashion show entitled  “Curves at Full Throttle” here in Richmond, Virginia. I tell you what, yall ain’t ready.

By day Courtney works as a correctional officer in Alexandria, Virginia and as a sales associate at Torrid part-time.  But I have a gut feeling that very soon she will be hanging up the handcuffs for a blossoming career as the muse of some big fashion house. I can’t wait until she starts The Plus Academy VIRGINIA fall session and maybe teach the other participants a thing or two about marketing yourself in this career. I’m sure you will be seeing alot more to come from this young lady in the plus-size modeling world!

Q & A with Courtney:

 

What’s your favorite store for shopping?
To choose just one is very hard but I am a Torrid fan to the highest degree.  I like to get my looks from many different stores such as Voluptuous Inc in Canada, Dots (the best kept secret), Forever 21’s Faith 21 collection and I also do a lot of bargain shopping on Ebay for the hottest and cheapest accessories and shoes.

 
What’s your fashion style?
I guess I could say my own Fashion Style would be something like “Emo Chic”. (sheek)
I like to put together items people would never think to combine to create my own look.  I like to take dark, emo or punkish,  unique items and team them with some chic, trendy,  signature pieces and create a whole new genre of style just for me.  This is what you would find me in on a typical day working at Torrid or out doing daily errands.
 
 Why and how did you get started in modeling?
 My entire life I have always been the Fashionable, Trendy, Plus Size girl in my circle.  I never really put much thought into trying to break into the plus modeling world but this industry found and picked me.
All I did was alter a Size Is Sexy T-Shirt and show up at FFF Week to show my support.  From there it has been the best 30 days of my life.  Yes it has only been just over 30 days since I returned from FFF Week.  Photo Shoots, Commercial Shoots, my first ever Runway Show here in Richmond, VA and now I am on Ms. Bella Styles blog.  What more could a girl with a PASSION FOR PLUS SIZE FASHION ask for????
