Spring 2011 Trend: “Curves and Stripes”
I did a post a few weeks ago on what the top trends for Spring/Summer 2011 will be. One of those top trends this year will be stripes. But as one reader brought to my attention, how does a “curvy” woman wear this trend the correct way? Firstly I would suggest not overdoing it. If you have on a stripe top then for pete’s sake please don’t wear striped bottoms at the same time. If you happen to be a “hippy” woman then camouflage that area with a long length stripe shirt and a pair of plain colored bottoms. When wearing a striped skirt go for a cami and cardigan look up top in the darkest color of the skirt. Striped jackets can also be pulled off with a curvy figure by adding a wide belt to it. Here are a few examples:

(Below) Plus-Size Version:
The above Ashley Stewart stripe “Shark Tooth Hem Sweater” can be worn to cover wide hips. Pair it with another popular Spring 2011 trend, white jeggings, to complete the look.

The above coat is a zig zag print but is very similar to the stripe design. I would throw on a wide black or red belt with this.

The above dress can be viewed as plain and frumpy but by adding a belt, tights and the right accessories, a curvy chick can pull this one off. I’m thinking that yellow would really make this dress pop!

The CYNTHIA TWIST DRESS has a gathered belt to accent your waist area. The knit jersey material will flatter your curvy figure

Or do a nautical look such as above by pairing a stripe shirt with a short shrug to take all the focus off of the stripes

YOUR TIPS ARE VERY HELPFUL. I WILL BE USING THEM ON MY NEXT SHOPPING TRIP……
THANK YOU
I have been loving on stripes for about 2 years now, and I am excited to see them continue to be in style. I’m especially loving the brighter combos vs. the classic breton stripes.
Good tips and examples! I was kinda iffy on the stripes for the season, but may give it a go.
