The Spring 2013 Rue 114 “Prints ‘n Scribes” Collection
I just adore a great fashion campaign and after having just spotted the latest from designer Rue 114 I’m ecstatic about the new collection. It is called the “Prints ‘n Scribes” Collection and is full of colorful pieces such as THE “ROSHNI” CUTE AS A BUTTON DRESS and THE “SHANTEL” AFRO ROCK” MERMAID GOWN. I love how Rue 114 mixes trendy prints and pops of color in with the original african-themed attire. This distinct artistry is exactly what has garnered Rue 114 with the noted acclaim as “Designer of the Year” for Full Figured Fashion Week®. (Rue 114 will also be presenting their latest collection on the runway of FFFWeek® on Friday, June 21st in NYC).
You may remember me wearing a Rue 114 dress in a previous photoshoot post and I use that picture of me in that dress as my avatar pic on the Lucky Magazine page that I contribute to. It was the Afripop Dress in Cobalt and that dress is still one of my all-time faves to this day.
But back to the newest collection. Rue 114 is a contemporary brand of women’s fashion that is inspired by and created for women who think that every size should be celebrated as beautiful. Central to their design philosophy is their motto, “Great style should be available in all sizes because fabulous, fierce, kick-ass women come in all sizes.” Which stands very true for the company as sizing goes from a small to 3X.
The “Prints ‘n Scribes” Collection represents Rue 114’s first Spring presentation, and the season immediately brings to mind a rebirth, color, and freshness that they hope to reflect in this collection. As Rue 114 seeks to constantly push the boundaries of modern, African inspired fashion; they thought it appropriate to use prints as their foundation. Taking cues from the popular color blocking trend, Rue 114 re-imagines the aesthetic through the prism of “print blocking.” Needless to say, this is not your wallflower’s collection!
